This section is to help you in the event that you have a problem with your system. Please try these suggestions before calling for technical help. Although you are welcome to call at any time this will reduce call flow so that customers that could not get repairs done using this section may get through for help a little easier. Please keep safety in mind by disconnecting power before removing pumps.
Pump will not start.
This can occur if there is an obstruction lodges in the cutter head or sometimes will occur if the pump has not been used for an extended period of time. If the pump makes a noise like it is trying to start you should first locate the center shaft in the center of the motor end of the pump. It will have a straight screwdriver slot in it. With the pump turned off insert a screwdriver into the slot & rotate the shaft a couple of times in each direction. Remove the screwdriver & then turn the pump on again. If pump runs smoothly then you are done & can continue to use the pump. If you hear anything rattling in the pump then I would suggest that you close your black dump valve & open the gray water dump valve & flush some gray water through the pump & then close the gray water valve & turn pump off. At this point disconnect the power from the pump & remove the pump & check for any foreign item that may be in the grinding chamber. Clear the obstruction using a pair of needle nose pliers or whatever you have available. Replace pump & connect power & continue using pump.
If pump will not start & does not make any noise like it trying to start you should first check the wiring. First check the ground wire & make sure that you have a good ground. Then check power at the pump on the pump side of the switch (to eliminate a bad switch) using a circuit tester. If power is good then turn the center shaft in the center of the motor end of the pump. If this does not correct the problem then remove the pump using the instructions above & check for foreign item lodged in cutter head.
Pump runs but turns slow or pumps slow.
Most of the time when a pump runs or pumps slow there is usually some string or hair wrapped around the cutter head & it will wedge itself between the cutter blades & the stainless wear plate behind the blades. Disconnect the power to the pump & remove the pump. Look in the end of the pump & you can see the cutter blades. There is a nut that holds the blades on. Remove the nut by turning counterclockwise. You can keep the shaft from spinning while you loosen the nut by inserting a straight screwdriver in the shaft at the opposite end of the pump. After clearing the hair or string replace blades, install the pump & connect power. The pump should now pump at a normal rate.
